Subject: English Date: Form: 9 Theme: “MEET KAZAKHSTANI STARS” a) lexical items: celebrity, grow up, award, include, successful, to be nominated for, band, shy, tour. b) grammar: adjectives Type of the lesson: combined Aims: a) educational: to introduce information about the celebrities of Kazakhstani stage. b) developing: to develop skills in using the words on the theme “Celebrities” in conversations; to develop abilities of scanning a text for specific information; to develop speaking, listening, writing and reading skills. c) up-bringing: to develop students’ interest in studying English, to encourage students to learn more about Kazakh culture; to develop the feeling of patriotism and create positive and respectful environment inside the class. Aids: a) Visual aids: whatmans with pictures and questions. b) Distributing material: handouts c) Technical means: active board Plan I. Organizational moment. a) Greeting: good morning! How are you today? b) Aim of lesson: to get acquainted with the Kazakhstani celebrities, to elicit knowledge that students obtained on the theme “Celebrities.” c) Classroom expressions: What date is it today? What day is it? Who is absent? II. Warm-up. a) Listening to the Kazakh national musical instrument dombra. The learners have to guess the name of the instrument, the tune and say what feelings and emotions it provokes. b) “Kazakhstani celebrities test”. The learners are offered to answer five questions on the theme related to music in Kazakhstan. 1. Name the compose of the famous Kazakh kjuy “Saryarka”. (Kurmangazy) 2. Name four Kazakh composers.(Kurmangazy, Dauletkerey, Dina Nurpeisova, Akhmet Zhubanov) 3. Name three Kazakh national musical instruments. (the dombyra, the kobyz, the asatayak) 4. What famous young singer from KZ took the fourth place at the festival “New Wave” in Jurmala 2010? (Kairat Tuntekov) 5. What famous singer was nominated by UNICEF as the first good will ambassador from Kazakhstan? (Batyrkhan Shokenov) 6. Name winners of the project Superstar KZ. (Almas Kishkenbaev, Kairat Tuntekov, Nurzhan Kermenbaev, Oleg Karezin) III. Lexical revision. a) The learners are asked to translate the following words from English into Russian: Celebrity, grow up, award, include, successful, to be nominated for, band, shy, tour. b) The learners are asked to complete the sentences using these words on the Active Board and in their copy-books. 1. There are many (celebrities) at the Kazakhstani stage. 2. Roza Rymbaeva’s repertoire (includes) songs of Kazakh and foreign composers. 3. In 1976 Roza Rymbaeva became a soloist of republican youth-pop (band) "Gulder". 4. Makhpal Isabekova is a Kazakh singer who became (famous) after Super Star KZ project. 5. In 1998 Tolkyn Zabirova was (nominated) for several (awards). IV. Project creation. a) Teacher: Look at three pictures and name the celebrities. Who are they? Today we are going to know more about Kazakhstani celebrities: Roza Rymbaeva, Tolkyn Zabirova and Makhpal Isabekova. b) Divide into three groups, read the information about these celebrities and answer the questions in short on the whatman paper. Also the learners have to read the words in bold and translate them into Russian. c) Presentation of projects. The learners come to the board and answer the questions. d) Reflexion. The teacher asks the following questions to check the understanding: 1. What famous TV show helped Makhpal Isabekova to become a celebrity? 2. When and where was Roza Rymbaeva born? 3. Where does Tolkyn Zabirova work at present time? V. Meeting a star. a) Teacher: today at the lesson you have a chance to ask Makhpal Isabekova a few questions. Each group should choose an interviewer and ask Makhpal a question. So, let’s greet her! (applauds) b) Group 1. Has anyone of other pop celebrities influenced you? At the end of 2008 I met Sergey Zhukov. He said that he was surprised by her talent and offered to make a duet. The first song performed together with Zhukov was “It doesn’t hurt”. The song was rotated on many radio station in Kazakhstan and Russia. In 2009 appeared animated video on this song. Group 2. Are you still friends with any participants of Super Star KZ? Most of my friends are not TV-celebrities. But I do have good relationship with Almas Kishkenbaev, Kairat Tuntekov and Alisher Karimov. Group 3. What are you plans for the future? Well, my dream is to release a platinum CD, it means I have to sell out more than 1 mln CDs. Also one of my dreams is to buy a villa on the Miami Beach and meet Mel Gibson in person. In Jurmala on the festival “New Wave” I sang a song by Gloria Gainer “I’ll survive” and now I want us to sing it together. VI. Listening task. a) The learners are asked to listen to the song and fill in the gaps.
