Objectives: 1. To practice vocabulary and grammar. 2. To give practice in four language skills: speaking, reading, listening and writing. 3. To develop analytical thinking, interest to learning English language. Materials: interactive board, work-cards, work-sheets, the song of Michael Jackson “The Earth Song” (mp3), the lyrics of the song. Vocabulary: words connected with environment (revision). Grammar: Present Simple Tense, Present Continuous Tense, Present Perfect Tense (revision). Introduction Good morning! I’m glad to see you again! Sit down please. How are you? So, today we are going to talk about interesting and useful topic, but I’ll tell you its name later. And now we are going to listen to the song of Michael Jackson “The Earth Song”. Warm up Look at the interactive board and sing alone. What about sunrise, what about rain What about all the things that you said we were to gain... What about killing fields, is there a time What about all the things that you said was yours and mine... Did you ever stop to notice all the blood we've shed before Did you ever stop to notice the crying Earth, the weeping shores? Aaaaaaaaaah Aaaaaaaaaah What have we done to the world, look what we've done What about all the peace that you pledge your only son... What about flowering fields, is there a time What about all the dreams that you said was yours and mine... You may use a dictionary. 1 Introducing an opposing view It could be argued that… 2 Discrediting the opposing view This is partly true, but … 3 Proposing your own view It is clear that… Performance Using the phrases write short paragraphs to oppose and discredit the ideas below and then propose your own view. 1 Taking up cycling instead of using a car is too dangerous in cities. 2 More energy is used up taking items to recycling banks than the benefits gained from recycling materials. 3 All uses of recycled paper should be clearly labelled to encourage others to follow the example. 4 Companies who discharge pollution into rivers, lakes and seas should be liable for cleaning up the environment. Post-writing 1) Re-read your paragraphs, make sure sentences make sense. 2) Read them again and check for accuracy. Giving home task, explaining it 1. Choose an environmental issue in our city or area and think of the things we can make to improve the situation. 2. Make up a short presentation to the whole class.
