| Учитель Гайнуллина Ольга Юрьевна 10 класс Lesson Theme “St. Valentine’s Day” Form 10th Aims: to know more about Saint Valentine’s Day as a holiday of the country of the learning language and to bring up an active person, who wants to develop his/her outlook. Objectives: the students will be able to - use the vocabulary of St.Valentine’s Day (colours, symbols etc.) to describe this holiday; - explain the meaning of the words, which are symbols of St. Valentine’s Day; - listen for specific information to answer the questions and use this information in their own dialogues; -represent information from the lesson by preparing their presentations or issues “St. Valentine’s Day” The expecting results: All the students will be engaged in active work to use not only the language of this lesson, but also the language that they have learnt. Materials: puzzles, pictures, cards, video “History of St. Valentine’s Day”, pencils, paper. Procedure of lesson 1. Orgmoment Teacher: Good morning boys and girls! Nice to meet you! Look at these pictures and guess what we’ll speak about today. Students guess. Yes, you are right. Today you’ll know more about Saint Valentine’s Day. When is St. Valentine’s Day? Student: St. Valentine’s Day is on the 14th of February. 2. Make up sentences with these words. 3. Teacher suggests students to make a puzzle and divides the class into 3 groups of 4 students. 4. Running story Prepare cards with the text numbered equally to the pairs of the students. Sit half of the students down at the desk at the back of the classroom. The other will be “messagers” Place the cards on the board and on the front wall of the classroom. The text is printed. The “messagers” should run to their cards quickly, read and memorize as much of the text as possible, then run to the “secretary” and dictate the memorized part to them, then run back again and do this work until the text is rewritten. The teacher collects the works and check the spelling. Students read the text. Card №1 (group №1) Rose is one of the most popular flower and one of the most powerful symbols of Valentine's Day. Since time immemorial rose flower has been a favorite of poets and romantics at heart. For them, the lovely rose stand for beauty, passion and love. Card № 2 (group №2) One of the traditions of this festival is to send valentine’s cards. More than two centuries ago people began to send valentine’s cards. There are a lot of different cards for this celebration in Britain. The cards may be humorous or serious, romantic or not. Card №3 (group №3) Red heart pierced by the Cupid's arrow is a traditional symbol of Valentine's Day. Heart symbolizes love and giving someone a heart means to hand over one's existence to someone. Today, one finds great use of red heart symbol especially heart shaped red balloons in Valentine's Day decoration. 5. Draw, write the symbols of St. Valentine’s Day. Don’t name the word. Explain it. Other students guess the word. If they are right, show the picture. 6. Imagine, that you are Cupids. Read the words on each heart. If the words are synonyms, draw an arrow through the heart. One has bee done for you. (Card “Synonym heart”) 7. Listening You’ll listen to one of the legends of St. Valentine’s Day. Listen attentively and answer the questions.
