| Lesson Plan Date: The 5th of March Class: 10 “A” Unit: IV The theme: International Partners The topic: Coca-Cola Business in Kazakhstan Equipment: English Book, Blackboard, Lesson Plan, Smartboard, Handouts. Educational aims: - To develop students’ speaking skills; - To make students familiarized with the Coca-Cola business. Objectives: - To check up students’ homework (to find out the ingredients of Coca-Cola and their favorite drink and exercises on Modal Verbs); - To work with text named “Coca-Cola Business in Kazakhstan”; - To check students’ comprehension on the topic. The Beginning of the Lesson Greeting and aim Warming-up activity Students answer some questions about Coca-Cola - Do you like drinking Coca-Cola? - Do you drink Coke? - Do you like this drink? - Do you know anything about the company that produces Coca-Cola? Checking-up the previous practice Students discuss the ingredients of the Coca-Cola and answer the following questions: - Is the drink mentioned healthy? - Shall you drink Coca-Cola? The teacher gives time to prepare the ingredients of their favorite, or just healthy drink. Then students are asked to make a comparison of these two drinks in pairs. Pre-reading task The teacher gives the headline of the text (“Coca-Cola Business in Kazakhstan”). The teacher gives them the phrases: local business, local communities, beverage brand, taxpayer, to join forces, non-alcoholic beverage. The teacher explains that all these phrases are in the story, but not in this order, asks them what is the story about, but does not tell them if their guesses are right or wrong. The teacher divides students into 3 groups to discuss their ideas. The teacher tells students that he or she is going to listen to their own texts, gives some time to prepare their speech. Goes round and listens as they work. Asks one of them to tell the story. Asks the others if their stories are the same or different. Asks them to say how their story is different. Reading work The teacher hands out the text for them to read. THE COCA-COLA BUSINESS IN KAZAKHSTAN While the Coca-Cola Company is a global company with some of the world’s most widely recognized brands, the Coca-Cola business in Kazakhstan is a local business. Our beverages are produced locally, employing Kazakhstan citizens. We are deeply involved in the life of the local communities in which we opera. Coca-Cola was first produced in Kazakhstan in 1996. Nov Coca-Cola is the leading soft drinks producer in Kazakhstan. Today, Coca-Cola beverages are produced and sold in the country by the Company’s authorized local bottling partner, Coca-Cola Almaty Bottlers (CCAB) of which was founded in 1996 as a joint venture Kazakhstani and Turkish Efes Invest. CCAB owns and operates one bottling plant, which is located in Almaty. CCAB also has two sales and distribution centres, located in Astana and Shymkent, and seven independent distributions, in Aktau, Atyrau, Aktobe, Pavlodar and Oskemen. The products of The Coca-Cola Company include a wide range of nonalcoholic beverages. In Kazakhstan, the Company’s beverages. In Kazakhstan, the Company’s beverage brands includes Coca-Cola, Coca-Cola light, Fanta, Sprite, Fresca and BonAqua. In Kazakhstan, Coca-Cola Almaty Bottlers is one of the 100 largest taxpayers among oil , industrial, tobacco and alcohol enterprises in Kazakhstan. In 2000, the Ministry of State Revenues awarded CCAB as “Best Taxpayer” for timely payment of all taxes. In February 2001 Coca-Cola joined forces with the Ministry of Culture, Information and Public accord, the Khadar agency and the ART-Centre, to preserve the musical heritage of Kazakhstan for future generations through a new project called Asyl-Mura-Musical Heritage of Kazakhstan ,the most comprehensive cultural project in the history of the country. The initiative intends to restore about, 3,000 hours of pure sounding music within five years. Coca-Cola contributes to the educational system of Kazakhstan by means of the mutual project with Almaty City- School Internet Center [62, p. 137]. Post-reading Students discuss the text, were their predictions right or wrong. Follow-up of the lesson and a hometask In the given lesson plan we used the following authentic material: recipe (ingredients of drinks), newspaper article (text). Students had roles of participants of discussion and interaction. The teacher was an activator and participant of the communicative process. The gap in reasoning assumes extraction of new information from set information: students write the recipe of the favourite drink and explain, in what its advantage. The gap in opinions assumes expression of personal opinion feeling in reply to the set situation. Students think out the main idea of the text, script to the story. This kind of activity relies on students’ imagination, their background knowledge. Besides, it develops their ability to use the target language independently. | |
