To bring up real patriots of Republic of Kazakhstan. 2. To enlarge the students’ outlook. 3. To consolidate the lexics on the themes “My free time’, “Travelling”, “Town” 4. To develop skills and habits of speaking, reading, auditive comprehension. 5. To review knowledge of the students on the themes. Introduction Good morning, dear students and guests. Glad to see you. Sit down, please. Soon we’ll celebrate our national holiday - Independence Day. Now I want you to dream and plan the weekend. Warm up Will you take these cards and show, perhaps, using pantomime, various kinds of spending the weekend? If necessary, work in pairs. All the other students, please, do your best to guess the leisure activities your friends will demonstrate. (Cards: 1. Dancing, singing, listening to music 2. Going in for sports 3. Reading 4. Sightseeing 5. Watching TV 6. Eating out 7. Visiting friends) (In pairs students demonstrate leisure activities and T. makes up the diagram.) 5 min. Consolidate grammar (Conditional I) What will you prefer to do most of all during your weekend or nearest holidays? Make up sentences with the help of the First Conditional and these cards Patterns on the cards: As soon as I have the weekend I’ll prefer… If I am free from studies (work) I’ll enjoy… When I have holidays I’ll be glad to… Summarizing your wishes (T. does it on the blackboard) we can come to the conclusion that most of people like to travel when they are on vacation. What kinds of travelling do you know? S1, S2, S3: Camping, safari, excursions, farmstay, hiking, hitch-hiking, cruise… 3 min. And I suggest you to visit our capital while having a weekend. Not long ago Astana celebrated its tenth anniversary as the capital. Read the text Let’s go to Astana by plane. While we are in the air, be so kind to read the text about our wonderful capital. (T. switches on the music.) 2 min. Astana is the capital of Kazakhstan Akmola was founded as a fortress in 1830. Since then it became a great trading center, where caravans from Middle Asia, Europe and Russia gathered. In 1954 Akmola became the organizing body of cultivating virgin lands in the Northern and Central parts of Kazakhstan. In 1961 Akmola was renamed Tselinograd, but in 1998 it got the name of Astana. New industrial enterprises appeared in the city such as: Agricultural-machine building plant, plants and factories of light and food industries and others. As it is the center of education and science there are 4 institutions of Higher education in Astana. One of them is famous modern Nikolai Gumilyov’s Eurasian University. The new building of State Ministry of Education and Science is also in Astana. You can find Medical, Pedagogical, Agricultural and Civil engineering institutes there too. Besides, there are 12 colleges, about 50 vocational and secondary schools. In public libraries of Astana you can find books of different authors from almost all the countries of the world. There is a History Museum and a good collection of paintings in the Museum of Arts. There are three big palaces of Culture in Astana. Astana is a modern and developing city with long and wide streets and prospects, wonderful parks and nice squares. One of the most important and beautiful squares is the President’s Square, which is situated in the center of the city. Here you can see the President’s Palace and a modern building of Mazhilis - Parliament of Republic of Kazakhstan. Opposite the Parliament there is a famous Congress Hall, where different concerts and meetings take place. The wide river Ishim divides the city into 2 parts. There are some bridges over the river. If you want to have a rest, you can go to the central park and have a good time in the shade of big green trees. Baiterek is a stone flower. It demonstrates to the world its heart – a large golden ball, the symbol of life and kindness. Its trunk is a Transport Tower which looks like a Rocket complex. Diplomats from all over the world work and live in the diplomatic town. Astana is a centre of international cooperation and friendship of peoples of different nations. People often go shopping to the large trade centre, the Supermarket. People come to Abai’s monument to honour the memory of the great writer. Today Astana is one of the most beautiful capitals of the world. Describe the sights of Astana Now we are in our capital. Let’s go sightseeing. Do you know these places of interest? Auditive comprehension of the text Kazakh people have many national traditions, which are kept carefully and handed from generation to generation. Now listen about one of them, fill in the blanks and answer the questions. All traditions are connected with the most (1) --- events of people’s life. The first step, which makes a child in his or her life, is a great (2) --- in every Kazakh family. It is called Tusau-kesu. For this holiday it is necessary a (3) ---, consisting of two strings, white and black. Why of two colors? Because these (4) --- show different sides of future life. Black color means that (5) --- should be ready to come across some difficulties in life. (6) --- color shows the progress in child’s future life. In other words difficulties and successes will be mixed up in his or her (7) ---.
