Topic: The visit of a foreign partner Aims: • to provide practice in developing communicative and socio cultural competence; • to develop analytical thinking, the ability to discuss things in pairs and groups and come to an agreement, to use new skills and knowledge in real life situations; • to create opportunities for tolerance and business culture awareness Type of lesson: combined. Methods: matching, brainstorming, jigsaw reading, pair and group discussion, presentation. Equipment: smart-board, handouts, computers or lab tops. Lesson Plan Procedure: 1. Introduction, creating atmosphere, motivation Before you start The teacher greets students and shows video of the countries (USA, Kazakhstan, Japan and Egypt Brazil ,) taken from the Internet: 1. Which countries have you just seen? 2. Which associations have you got with this countries? The teacher uses a smart board. In the left-hand column she writes the names of the countries, in the right-hand column the words connected with these countries given in disorder. The students match the countries with the words: Japan Brazil USA Kazakhstan, desert skyscrapers football camels chopsticks electronics pyramids carnivals samba traditions respect to seniority hot weather The teacher asks students if different countries of the world preserve their peculiarities in spite of the process of globalization and if people should take into account these peculiarities while doing any business. 2. Main part of the lesson 2.1 Brainstorm. The teacher informs students that one of the components in business is business etiquette and asks students to brainstorm the ideas (using their background knowledge) about it. The students give their ideas. 2.2 Listening. Imagine yourselves to be the representatives of the Kazakhstan firm called “AltyntauKokshetau”.Suppose, that you have long-term commercial contacts with an American firm called “Caterpillar” and now you are to meet with your American partners and sign a new contract with the firm. So, get your business cards and fill in your names and positions. Many people despite years of English study are terrified at the idea of making a simple call to an English-speaking person? Once you have mastered the formulas used for speaking on the telephone, a call will no longer be a frightening experience, but rather an enjoyable one. Now listen to a telephone conversation. Travelling is extremely important nowadays. Two hundred years ago most people never travelled further than a few kilometers. Nowadays millions of people travel long distances abroad.
