Procedure of the lesson

I. Defining the headline of the lesson
T: Good afternoon, boys and girls. I’m glad to see you! How are you? What can you say about your spirit? Are you OK now? Then let’s begin our lesson.
Today at the lesson we’ll practise the active vocabulary, listen to the letter of the seventh former, who had a problem and we try to solve her problem, then you will complete the dialogues, do the test about the right food, make up a Health Code and at the end of our lesson you are to summarize everything and make up the ABC of a Healthy Man.
What is the theme of our lesson? Children, I want you to define the theme of our lesson today. For this purpose I’d like you to answer some questions about the photos on the board (the photos of the sportsmen are given).
1. Whom do you see on the board?
2. What are they doing?
3. Are they healthy? Why? What way of life do they lead?
4. Why do you think we began our lesson with the talk about the sportsmen, about their way of living?
T: You are quite right. The theme of our lesson today is “Health and healthy way of life”.
II. Warming up. Brainstorming
T: Nowadays health is one of the most urgent problems in the world. And keeping health is very necessary for everyone. Why is that so?
T: What do you do to keep your health? Do you go in for sport?
T: And do you care about your health? Why?
T: Do you agree with this proverb? Explain its the meaning.
Ps: This proverb means that health is the dearest thing for a person.
I think that we can buy many things but we can't buy health.
We are to keep our health, lead healthy way of life.
T: OK! Now let’s talk about healthy way of life. There are some factors of healthy way of life. What are they?
Ps: Exercising, healthy dieting. Healthy lifestyle. Avoiding bad habits.
T: Let's speak about bad habits. What are they?
Ps: They are: smoking, drinking alcohol, taking drugs.
Sleeping too much, or too little.
Phisical inactivity.
T: I see that you know what bad habits are. Try to avoid them. You will not notice how you will become an addict.

III. Auding the letter
T: OK. Children, we’ve got a letter from a seventh-former who started smoking. Listen to the letter and be ready to help her solve her problem and give her an advice.
a) Listening to the letter
My name is N. I am a seventh-former. Not long ago I began to smoke. Certainly on the one hand I know that smoking is dangerous. And I don’t like the taste of cigarettes. But on the other hand my classmates called me names, and I want to look more grown-up than I really am. I think that smoking adds something to my image – I am classy. Well, can you help me to realize what should I do?
b) Mini-Discussion.
T: What problem does she have? What advice would you give her?
Ps: She should understand that smoking causes a bad cough, and in the worst case, lung cancer.
She should understand that smoking ruins her health and not only her health but the health of the people around. It would be better if she finds a hobby.
She should go in for sports. It is very useful.
T: Good. You certainly understand that smoking is the problem not only of one person but the whole society. How is it possible to solve this problem?
Ps: Parents and teachers must fight against this problem together.
They must explain to the children that they ruin health by smoking.
c) Writing the arguments for not smoking.
T: Which of the arguments will you use to convince your friends not to smoke?
Ps: Dear boys! Don’t smoke, because its smell affects the whole class.
Dear friends! Never smoke! It is dangerous for your health.
Smoking is a bad habit. Let’s avoid bad habits!
T: Of course smoking like any other bad habit is extremely dangerous for your health. Remember: it is easier to start to smoke than to give it up.
IV. Valeological Pause. Physical exercises
T: And now I think it’s high time to have a break and do some useful physical exercises.
PS: To be healthy in your life,
Don’t forget to do all five,
Get up early, quick and bright,
Exercise with all your might.
In the morning jump and run,
Eat your breakfast you’ve done,
Train your body, train your brain,
And all bad habits pass away.
V. Jig-saw Puzzle
T: We have relaxed. And now it’s time to work hardly.
Sometimes we’re ill and we need to go to the doctor. Let’s imagine the situation. Our task is to complete the dialogue in the right order. I have sheets of paper. On each sheet of paper there is a sentence from the dialogue. You are to put the sentences in the right order so as to make a dialogue. Then be ready to give an expressive reading.
Dialogue 1
Doctor: Hello Mrs. Wilson.
Mrs. Wilson: Hi Doctor.
Doctor: How are you feeling?
Mrs. Wilson: I don't feel good.
Doctor: What's bothering you?
Mrs. Wilson: I have a stomachache and a headache.
Doctor: Where does it hurt?
Mrs. Wilson: Here.
Doctor: Do you have a fever?
Mrs. Wilson: No, I don't think so.
Doctor: OK. Let me look at your throat. Open your mouth. Your throat's red.
Does it hurt?
Mrs. Wilson: Yes. It's sore.
Doctor: When did it start to feel this way?
Mrs. Wilson: Last week.
Doctor: I think you have a virus. It might be the flu. I'm going to give you a
prescription for some medicine.
Mrs. Wilson: Thank you.
Doctor: Try to get some rest, and be sure to drink lots of water and orange juice.
Dialogue 2
Doctor: What is the trouble with you?
Paul: I've caught a bad cold.
Doctor: How long are you feeling this way?
Paul: I've been ill since Monday.
Doctor: And you are coughing a lot, aren't you?
Paul: Yes.
Doctor: Have you taken your temperature?
Paul: Yes, I'd taken my temperature before I left home. It was normal.
Doctor: Have you a headache or a sore throat?
Paul: I have both.
Doctor: Have you taken anything for your headache?
Paul: I took aspirin.
Doctor: Well, I'll examine you. It is not an ordinary cold. You have flu. I'll give you two prescriptions which you must take to the chemist's. If you follow my instructions you will feel better in a few days. If you don't feel better, you will have to call for me.
Paul: Thank you, doctor.

What do you feel?
