Educational tasks: - to develop and test pupils’ listening skills; - to develop pupils’ speaking abilities. The Plan of the Lesson. I. The beginning of the lesson. a) Greeting the class and the guests. TEACHER: Good afternoon, our dear guests and my children. PUPILS: Good afternoon. TEACHER: Sit down, please. b) Introduction of the lesson’s theme. TEACHER: I’m glad to se you. How are you? Today we are going to have an interesting trip together. The theme of our lesson is “Speaking about the countries of the world”. I invite you to travel to London to the capital of the United Kingdom and other countries. We are going to revise all you know about the countries of the world. II. Warm-up. a) TEACHER: Before we start our tour, let’s talk about the countries in general. For example London. What is London for you? What do we think of when we speak about London? Will you help me to make up the word web? places to visit buildings, English museums, parks beautiful nice England interesting the Queen capital British people (Englishmen) b) Rearrangement. TEACHER: While we are thinking about words, which are associated with London, I’d like one pupil to come to the blackboard. Here is a short text. The sentences of it are in the wrong order. Your task is to put all parts of the text in the right order and read it to the class. III. Listening Comprehension. a) Work on the completed text. • The pupil reads the text he has made up from different sentences. Other pupils listen to him. • The teacher asks questions about the text. Questions: 1. What is the girl’s name? 2. What country does she come from? 3. What is the capital of this country? 4. Where does Queen Elizabeth live? 5. What does Mary say about tourists? 6. Can Russian tourists visit London? IV. Speaking. The pupils speak about London (work in chain). They answer questions: • Would you like to go to London? • Why? • What places of interest would you like to visit? • Express your opinion about London. TEACHER: You know a lot about London. Let’s make up a story about it. Everyone should make up only one sentence. But don’t repeat the sentences of your friends. Let’s begin. That’s very good now children let’s do the exercises TEACHER: Exercise№1 In this exercise you must make up questions which will be appropriate to the answers below. So, begin. 1. Is the sun the centre of solar system? Yes, the sun is the centre of solar system 2. Who will be able to see land, oceans, continent? I’ll be able to see land, oceans, continents. 3. How many oceans and continents in the world? There are four oceans and six continents 4. What is the largest country in the world? The largest country in the world is Russia. 5. What countries are in Asia? China, India, Kazakhstan and others are in Asia. 6. What is the capital of Great Britain? The capital of Great Britain is London 7. What majesties have the each country? Each country has its national flag, anthem and its own traditions and customs. TEACHER: Now look at the picture and say me what countries in it? TEACHER: Now children write in your note-book the names of countries in Asia and Europe. That’s very good if you finish. In the next exercise you must answer to the questions 1. What country do you live in? 2. What is the capital of your country? 3. Is your country in America? 4. It is in Asia, isn’t it? 5. Where do Spaniards live? 6. What the capital of Spain? 7.
