Lesson Theme: “Money, money”. Составила: Медзыховская М.Г., учитель английского языка СОШ №20, г. Уральск, ЗКО. Form: X Date: 15.04.2015. Aim of the lesson: Developing the skills in oral speech, in discussing the problems. Tasks: To revise the covered material. To widen students’ outlook according to the theme. To systematize the learnt words, idioms and proverbs on the theme. To develop skills in oral speech. Plan of the lesson: I. Warming up: Song “Money, money, money” (ABBA). a) Teacher’s questions; b) Currencies. II. Words related to money. Verbs we use with the word “money”. Slang words for money. III. Work in groups: a) Questions about the life values. b) Idioms and proverbs about money (Competition). c) Advantages (I team) and disadvantages (II team) of having a lot of money. IV. Answering teacher’s questions (e.g. Is it possible to have too much money?). V. Conclusion: Can money do us happy? Marks for the lesson. I. Teacher: 1 Начало урока. Т.: Good morning! I am glad to see you. How are you today? Raise your hands who is fine today. I see. Everybody is ok Are you ok, … ? Are you happy, … ? I’m fine too.Who is absent?... I hope everybody is ready to work, so I want you to be active as usual. Listen, please to the song of a very popular group of the past, “ABBA”… (a song “Money, money”) Can you guess now what the theme of our lesson is? Whаt is the girl in the song dreaming about? You are right. Our theme is “Money”, and the girl is dreaming about the rich man, for not to work hard and not to pay all bills. What is Money? II. Do you remember the symbols of different currencies? Let’s check up! Do you know the names of these symbols of currencies and the countries where they are used? (students can name and write some other symbols if they know). III. Group work. Teacher: Task№1. Let’s remember the verbs related to money (group work). To pay, to waste… (students will work in 2 groups). The winner will be the group which will write more verbs connected to money. Task№2. Very good! We’ll continue our work in groups. The next task is: The first group will tell us the advantages of having a lot of money, the second – disadvantages. And you are to explain your point of view. Your time is limited, only 3 minutes. Advantages of money Disadvantages of money You can buy whatever you want. You are afraid to lose your money. You can travel all over the world. Everybody asks you to lend money. You needn’t work. It’s difficult to find real friends. You can always help You must always think where to hide money… your relatives and friends… Task №3 Try to remember English and Russian idioms connected to money and tell the meaning of the idioms. Money doesn’t grow on trees. This means that money is always hard to get. Money is the root of all evil. This means that money can often make people do bad things. I’m not made of money. This means that I only have a certain amount of money that belongs to me. That will cost me an arm and a leg. This means that something is too expensive, it costs too much. You look like a million Dollars. This means that you look great and healthy. Splash out. This means to spend a lot of money all at once, in one go. Rob Peter to pay Paul. This means that you borrow money from one person to pay back money you owe to someone else. Money makes the World go round. This means that money helps us to live and things to happen. Task №4. And now let’s discuss a little. Try to give your answers to my questions. Questions: • Is it possible to have too much money? • Do you agree that having a lot of money makes you free? • What can’t buy money? • Do you agree that muck and money go together? • Does money really make the world go round? • Can money make us happier? Teacher: Let’s sum up the information you’ve learnt today. And now, imagine you are allowed to have some gifts, which you think are the most important. Choose three gifts, which you think are the most important for you. • good health • plenty of money • a nice house • a brilliant mind • an attractive face • lots of friends • a good job • a fast car • a happy marriage • a long life • an artistic talent Make up words related to money. 1.
