Theme: Dates.
Structures: How many? How much?
Aims: a) learning structures How many? How much? related to countable and uncountable nouns;
b) introduction dates;
c) checking and consolidating speaking, listening reading and writing skills.
Aids: 1) schemes with How many? How much?;
2) a table with numerals (cardinal and ordinal);
3) objects;
4) pictures with objects.
Procedure:
I. Warming up activities: (6 minutes)
a) count from one up to ten;
b) count from ten up to one hundred (10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70,…) ;
c) Name the ordinal numerals from cardinal ones.
one - the first six – the sixth
two - the second seven – the seventh
three – the third eight – the eighth
four – the fourth nine – the ninth
five – the fifth ten – the tenth
d) Name the following numerals: 22, 33, 44, 55, 66, 77, 88, 99, 100; 21, 31, 41, 51… and so on.
II. Consolidation of lexical material on topic “Food” using the pictures with object and the structure there be, demonstrative pronouns: (5 minutes)
a) What is this/that? This is a ……
That is a …….
What are these/those? These are…..
Those are …..
The teacher shows all pictures with object on topic “Food”.
b) There is one apple in the fruit – vase.
(orange, pear, nut, tomato, cucumber)
There are five apples on the plate.
(nuts, oranges, bananas, pears, strawberries)
III. Introduction the structure How many? How much? With countable and uncountable nouns. (16 minutes)
much +uncountable nouns many + plural nouns
much money much food
much time much coffee many books many shops
many people many questions

a) There is much milk in the bottle.
How much milk is there in the bottle? (uncountable)
There are two nuts on the plate.
How many nuts are there on the plate? (countable).
Much and many are more usual in questions and negative sentences.
How much money have you got?
How many photographs do you take?
How many food do you buy?
How many books have you got?
How many days in a week?
How many month in a year?

IV. Introduction the dates:
a) Материал: Даты – Dates
В британском варианте английского языка (British English) даты записываются так: число, месяц, год.
В американском английском (American English) при записи даты цифрами сначала указывают: месяц, потом число и год.
Сравните:
British English American English
1.3.1972 1.3.1972
The first of March, January the third,
nineteen seventeen seventy two. nineteen seventy two.
или
March the first,
nineteen seventy two.
Даты обозначаются порядковыми числительными.
Например: I was born on the twenty – second of May, nineteen eighty – four
или
I was born on May the twenty – second, nineteen eighty – four
Lomonosov was born November 19, 1711 читается:
Lomonosov was born on the nineteen of November, seventeen eleven
или
Lomonosov was born on November the nineteen, seventeen eleven
1900 – читается: - nineteen hundred
2004 – читается: - twenty hundred and four или twenty oh four
Если при чтении дат мы ноль называем oh, то в указании счета в спортивных играх команд ноль будет читаться 0 = nil
Например: 4 : 0 читается four to nil
0 : 3 читается nil to three
