Good day, children. Let’s have the things started. Today we are having one more home reading lesson and we are going to discuss the chapters we have already read. The main task for you for today’s lesson is to show knowledge of the lexical material and your skills of speaking. 2. Warm-up. Asking questions. To begin with I want you to answer some of my questions. 1. How many chapters have we already read? 2. What are the headlines of the chapters? 3. What chapter was the most interesting for you? Why? 4. What chapter was the most difficult? Why? 3. Listening to the dialogue. And now let’s turn to the lesson by itself. I asked you to revise all lexical material we’ve learned and besides Christy and Lera had a special task – composing a dialogue about the book “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s stone”. Now let’s listen to the dialogue very attentively and get ready to analyze it. 4. Analysis of the dialogue Thank you, girls. Now I think it will be interesting for you to know what your classmates think about the work you have done. So, children, let’s analyze the dialogue. Don’t forget to mention both: the things you liked and disliked about this dialogue. Be sure you use proper lexical material. You are free to suggest your ideas. 5. “Main characters” activity. The next task will help me to find out whether you know the main characters and whether you can describe a person. The task is as follows: each of you will have a small piece of paper on your back with a name written on it. Your aim is to find out what name is written on your back by asking questions. Your classmates will help you. After that you should describe your character, saying some words about him, his appearance, traits of character. 6. Work with lexical material. And now let’s find out how you know our active vocabulary. You’ve learnt a lot of words and now I want to know if you remember how to use them. Look at the screen. There you can see a sentence, but one word is omitted. Your aim is to insert this word, read and translate the sentence. 1. In the letter Dumbledore explained that Harry’s parents had died. 2. Dudley was so frightened that he ran to hide behind his mother. 3. One day Uncle Vernon saw strangely dressed people – they all were in cloaks. 4. Harry learnt that he was a wizard. 5. The only thing Harry liked about himself was a thin scar on the forehead. 6. Harry was a strange boy, and many mysterious things happened top him. 7. In the reptile house Harry looked at a snake and suddenly it winked. After that the glass vanished. 8. Harry’s parents died in a car crush. 9. Dudley was a very spoiled child. Comparing. I see that you know the words very well and now show that you can compare things. You’ll get Venn’s diagram. Use it to compare two characters of the book - Harry and his cousin Dudley. In the square you will write their common features and outside the square the differences between them. Now let’s listen to your ideas and compare them. 7. Asking questions. So, was it interesting to compare Harry and Dudley? Was the task difficult for you? Every one of you can answer my questions very good but it is more difficult to ask questions. Let’s see if you are good at asking questions. Look at the screen again. You see a word. It is the answer to a question. Your aim is to ask this question. Hogwarts (Where was Harry invited to study?) Dudley (What was the name of the Dursleys' son?) In the reptile house (Where did the Dursleys go at Dudley's birthday?) Lord Voldemort (What was the name of the "Dark Lord"?) Joanne Kathleen Rowling (Who is the author of "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone"?) 8. Matching The following task will help me to know how attentive you can be, how you can read and obtain new information from the text. Look at the screen, please. There you can see three pictures. And now you will get three short texts. Your aim, as you understand, is to match a text with the picture it describes. Text 1 Harry and Ron are great friends. They both came to Hogwarts for the first time. Everything is very interesting for them. They have a lot of things to learn and a lot of adventures are waiting for them. Text 2 These three kids became very popular all over the world thanks to J. Rowling books about a wizard boy who is well-known in the world of wizards because of his extraordinary forces. Text 3 The main character of J. Rowling’s books about a wizard boy became so popular that kids all over the world collect his photos from magazines, newspapers Internet and even draw his pictures. 9. Discussing fragments. Do you remember I promised you that we would watch the film about Harry Potter. So this is the thing we are going to do right now. But it won’t be just watching. After watching a fragment of the film you should tell me what this fragment is about, that is to describe the things you’ll see. 10. Introduction of the home work. Our lesson is coming to its end and it’s time we discussed your homework. At home you should look all four chapters through and fill in The Character Sketch. Character Sketch Name of the character Appearance Traits of character Uncle Vernon Harry Dudley Aunt Petunia Hagrid 12. Analysis of the lesson. And now let’s return to analyzing but this time we will analyze our lesson. What activities did you like most? What activities were rather difficult for you? What was easy (difficult) for you in studying these four chapters about Harry Potter? 13. Marks. Now I want to say some words about your work during today’s lesson………………………………………………………………………… In general you did a good job and I wish you to keep on like that. | |
