План открытого урока в 8 классе по теме "США"
The main goals of the lesson:
-to develop and test students' listening skills
-to develop students' speaking abilities
-to revise the Passive Voice Educational supplies: video film, audiocassette, cards with the special tasks.





The plan of the lesson
I. The beginning of the lesson.
a) Greeting the class and the guests.
b) Introduction of the lesson's theme.
II. Answering the questions about the USA.
1. When was America discovered?
2. Who was America discovered by?
3. The new land was called America. Do you know why?
4. Who lived on this territory before the Europeans?
5. When did the pilgrims settle in America?
6. What was the name of their ship?
7. Why did a lot of European people go to America?
What did they look for?
8. When was the war for the independence?
9. Who led the American army?
10. What do you know about George Washington?
11. What is the capital of the USA?
(Before the next work the teacher gives the task to one of the pupils).
III. Grammar. The Passive Voice.

IV. Listening Comprehension.
a) Work on the completed text.
• The pupil reads the text he has completed. Other
pupils listen to him.
• The teacher asks questions about the text.
• The teacher reads statements and the pupils tell if
they are true or false.
(These tasks are in the card which is intended for the teacher.)
b) Work on the video film.
• The teacher gives the task:
• The pupils watch the film and work on the first task.
• Then they do exercises 2 and 3.
• If the teacher has enough time, he checks up the
tasks during the lesson or it can be done later.
• The pupils answer the question: Have you enjoyed
the film? Why or why not?
c) Work on the test in the disk.
• The teacher gives the task:
The pupils listen to the cassette and choose the
correct answer.
The teacher collects the cards.
V. Speaking.
• The pupils speak about the USA. (Work in a chain.)
• They answer a question: Would you like to go to
the USA? Why? What is your opinion?
VI. The end of the lesson.
• The teacher thanks the pupils for the work, gives
the home task and says "Goodbye".



T. Good morning class! I'm glad to see you. How are you?
T. The theme of our lesson is "The USA ". We are going to revise all you know about this country, watch a video film and listen to disc. First, answer my questions.
T. I'd like one pupil to come to the blackboard. Here is a text about the capital of the USA "The Nation's Capital". It is cut into some pieces. Your task is to put all parts of the text in the right order and then read it to the class. (Pupil's Card 1)
T. A lot of things were made first by Americans. Let's see what you know about it. We shall do two grammar exercises. Take your card, please. (Pupil's Card 2)
T. Make sentences to answer the questions: "Who were these things invented by?"
T. Take the card. Read the text and put the verbs into the correct form. (Pupil's Card3)
T. You will watch the film and at the same time you will work on the first task in your Card 4. Before you start watching the film read the instructions and skim through the following sentences in the first task. You have only half a minute to do it.
T. You will listen to some questions. On your cards there are three answers for every question. Please, choose the correct one and circle it. Card five.
T. You know a lot about the USA.
Let's invent a story about this country. Everyone should make up only one sentence. But don't repeat the sentences of your friends. We shall speak about the history and geography, about the American presidents and other things you have already learnt. Let's start!

THE NATION'S CAPITAL
Washington, the capital of the United States, is in the District of Columbia (D.C.).
This special district, named after Christopher Columbus, is not in any state, because
it is the home of the federal government. The city is divided into four sections:
northeast (NE), northwest (NW), southeast (SE), and southwest (SW).
In the center of the city is the Capitol, where Congress meets.
The president lives and works nearby in the White House. International
organizations such as the Organization of American States and
the World Bank are also based in Washington. In and around Washington, D.C.,
there are many memorials to honor important people in American history
like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Abraham Lincoln, and soldiers
who have died in wars. There are also many famous museums, including the National
Air and Space Museum. More than 18 million tourists from all over
the world come to visit these places every year.
