Work Out of the Lesson Equipment: A computer, a whiteboard, the presentation «Kazakhstan is an independent state». Theme of the lesson: Kazakhstan Is an Independent State Aims: • to present the words on the topic • To consolidate the words and grammar (Word building); • to practice reading the text; • to develop reading, listening and speaking skills; • to bring up patriotism and love for the Motherland; 1. Organization moment. Declaration of the theme and the aims of the lesson. 2. Warming up. a). Look through the list of the words and underline international ones: State, republic, independent, ideal, sovereign, capital, flag, emblem, important, center, anthem, sun, eagle, ornament, hope, president, symbol, shanyrak, custom, tradition, history, nationality, folk, system, control, star. b). Practice reading the following words: Constitution, the Constitutional Council, Parliament, the Majilis, the Senate, a senator, the Supreme Court, the judicial system, president, Prime Minister, referendum. c). Match the word and the definition. 1.Constitution a). is a group of people who are elected to govern a country or a city. 2.Council b). is the main law of the country. 3.President c). is the lower House of Kazakhstan Parliament. 4.Senate d). is the leader of the republic. 5.Majilis e). is the upper House of Kazakhstan Parliament. 6.A senator f). is a member of the law-making senate. 7.The Supreme Court g). is an occasion when all the people of the country can vote on an important issue (question). 8.Referendum h). is the place where legal trials take place and where crimes are judged. You know that many words in the English language are formed with the help of suffixes. Look, read and discuss with your desk mate what these words have in common; what they come from; what part of speech they are now; translate them into Russian. 1). Government, development, environment, parliament e.g. The words have suffix –ment in common. They come from verbs to govern, to develop, to environ and French verb parler. They are nouns now правительство, развитие, окружающая среда, парламент. 2). Honesty, integrity, generosity, responsibility 3).Richness, quietness, faithfulness, happiness, sharp-sightedness (зоркость) 4). Equal, national, political, universal, judicial, cultural, industrial, agricultural 5. Revision: homework control. a). It’s time to speak about the place we live. You were given to write a composition about Kazakhstan. Let’s listen to some of them. Puipil1: I live in Kazakhstan. Our country is very large. It is situated in Asia. Kazakhstan borders China, Russian Federation, Uzbekistan, Kirgizia and Turkmenistan. The capital of it is Astana. It is a very modern and beautiful city. The population of the country is 16 million. People of about 100 nationalities live on Kazak land as a great friendly family. They work much to make it richer and nicer. Industry and agriculture is developed in Kazakhstan. The country is rich in mineral resources such as copper, oil, natural gas, gold, iron, nickel, silver and zinc. Agriculture takes a very important sector in the national economy. The people grow wheat, millet, corn and cotton. Kazakhstan is the country of wide steppes and high mountains, long rivers and deep lakes. It is the country of friendly and hospitable people who want to live in peace. I was born in Kazakhstan. I am a citizen of Kazakhstan. I love my Motherland and I am proud of it. (Pupils’ compositions are collected for checking). b). Listening. Some of you were given individual tasks. Now we are going to listen to the information about the national flag. Listen and be ready to discuss the following questions: 1). A national flag is an expression of human hopes and ideals, isn’t it? 2). What colour is the flag of Kazakhstan? What does the blue colour mean? 3). What can you see in the center of it? 4). Is the sun the symbol of wealth and quietness? 5). What does the steppe eagle express? The state flag of Kazakhstan As an independent and sovereign state Kazakhstan has got its own national flag, state coat of arms/emblem, and anthem. A national flag is an expression of human hopes and ideals. Behind it is the history of the country it represents, the past and the present of the folks and very often their future too. The state flag of our country is blue. In the center of it we see a golden sun and a flying eagle. There is a stripe of the national ornament along the flagstaff. The blue colour of the flag reflects such human qualities as honesty, faithfulness and hope. The golden sun, bathing in its rays is the symbol of quietness and wealth. The steppe eagle shows generosity and sharp-sightedness, good intentions of the peoples of Kazakhstan. The creator of the state flag of our Republic is Shaken Niyazbekov, the artist. c). Listen to the information about the national Coat of Arms/emblem. Be ready to answer the following questions: 1). Who are the creators of the national Coat of Arms? 2). Shanyrak is the basis of the Arms, isn’t it? 3). Why can you see horses on the Arms? 4). What does the five-pointed star express on the Arms? The national Coat of Arms The state emblem of the Republic was designed by architects Zhandarbek Malibekov and Shota Valikhanov. On the emblem of Kazakhstan we see shanyrak that is the basis of the Arms. It is the heart of the Arms. It is the integrity of the world, the symbol of the first principle of a state-home, family. As it is impossible to imagine nomad’s life without a horse there are two horses to the left and to the right of the shanyrak. The hoses are true friends and helpful assistants of a nomad. There was a custom to bury a soldier together with his horse in ancient times. Five-pointed star crowns the Arms. Every man has his loadstar. The state must also have such a star. The star on the emblem is a symbol of happiness, light, dream and great intentions. There are ears of wheat that show richness of our Motherland. Kazakhstan emblem is the reflection of a long interesting history of all nationalities living in peace and friendship on the rich Kazakhstan land. 6. Reading of the text «Political System of Kazakhstan». I hope it will be interesting for you to know who rules Kazakhstan and some more facts about independent State. Read the text to get more information: Kazakhstan is an independent and sovereign state. It has its own national flag, state emblem, and anthem. Astana is the capital of the republic and an important political center. The President and the government live and work in it. The main law of the state is the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan. It was adopted in 1995. According to the Constitution Kazakhstan is a unitary state with a presidential form of Government. The President is elected for a five-year term by universal, equal and direct voting. The first President of the Republic Nursultan Nazarbayev was elected in 1991. Later in 1995 his term was extended by national referendum until the year 2000. The highest representative body is the parliament of the Republic. The parliament consists of two houses – the Senate and the Majilis acting on a permanent basis. Parliament’s upper house, the 47-seat Senate, has two members from Astana, two from Almaty, and two from each of Kazakhstan’s 14 oblasts (administrative regions). The president appoints the remaining fifteen members. Senators serve six-year terms. The members of the lower house of Parliament, the 107-seat Majilis, are elected to five-year terms. The voting age is 18. The government is headed by the Prime Minister. He is often given responsibility over the economy. Currently Karim Masimov is the Prime Minister in Kazakhstan. The judicial system of the Republic is executed by the Supreme Court and the local courts of the state. Control of Constitutional laws is implemented by the Constitutional Council, which consists of 7 members and is elected for period of 6 years. Currently Nursultan Nazarbayev is head of state.
