«Our Future Life» 10 класс Вербицкая М.Г., учитель английского языка 1 категории _____________________________________________________________________________ Aims: 1) Teaching: • to discuss the topic “ future life” • to practise the dialogue work • to revise grammar Future forms 2) Developing: • to develop reading skills • to develop speaking skills • to develop grammar skills • to develop audio skills 3) Educational: • to educate the interest to learning English • to educate collectivism • to educate the culture of working in groups. Lesson type: lesson of consolidation Lesson aspect: mixed lesson with different types of activities Visual aids: cards, pictures, slides, cards Mind set: computer, presentation in Power Point I. Preliminaries: Good morning students. Dear guests, dear students! Today we are going to have a very interesting open lesson. We’re going to discuss the theme which is useful, especially for students of the 10th and 11th forms. We’ll do different kinds of work and different exercises. II. Warm up: Let’s start from the first task: Look at the board and match the definitions with the meanings: Profession to spend time doing something Job to have a meeting with someone and ask them questions to find out if they are suitable for a job Work an organization that provides services Interview work that you do regularly to earn money Business an occupation that requires extensive education or specialized training Company- a job you need special skills and qualifications to do Futurology The study of the future, including how people will live, work and communicate. III. Grammar revision: Let’s review grammar material Future forms. What tenses do we use to express future events: 1) Future Simple- a) to express a predictions seen as a future fact b) for making suggestions c) in conditionals I 2) to be going to- a) prediction when it is based on present evidence. 3) Present Continuous a) for expression of personal arrangements 4) Present Simple- for expression future events that are based on a timetable 5) Future Continuous- to express an activity that will be in progress at a specific time in the future 6) Future Perfect expresses an action that will be completed before a specific time in the future 1. Making up sentences: a) Now look at the programme of Professor Bloomsherg. He is saying what the world will be like in 50 years’ time. Look at the notes and make up the sentences using Future Simple Tense: People living longer More people in the world Robots doing all the hard work People having more free time People flying to other planets 1) People will live longer 2) There will be more people in the world 3) Robots will do all the hard work 4) People will have more free time 5) People will fly to other planets. b) Pupils at Parkside School are going to leave school soon. Say what are they going to do: 1. Neil wants to be out in the fresh air. 2. Sharon has already learnt to drive. 3. Andrew is interested in machines. 4. Tina would like to work with people. Become a taxi driver Look for an outdoor job Study engineering Train to be a social worker 1) Neil is going to look for an outdoor job. 2) Sharon is going to become a taxi driver. 3) Andrew is going to study engineering. 4) Tina is going to be a social worker. с) Make up sentences looking at the pictures: 1. If you eat much, you will get fat. 2. If you leave your handbag open, you’ll lose your money. 3. If you drive too fast, you’ll have an accident. d) Use Present Simple and Present Continuous: Thank you for your work and let’s continue. IV. Work on the pictures: Look at the pictures and match the sentences with the pictures from the cartoon and explain the future form: 1 a- I’ll see you tomorrow. Bye! 2 g- in a hundred years’ time, we’ll all be driving solar-powered cars. 3 f- I’m going to lead an honest life from now on. 4 e- Where shall we go on holiday this year? 5 c- We’re having a party next Saturday. Can you come? 6 b- The train to Dover leaves at ten past ten. 7 d- Tomorrow’s weather will be warm and sunny. 8 h- The builders say they’ll have finished by the end of the month. V. Audio work: Look at the pictures and listen to some people talking about the future. Try to guess who says what. Then you’ll answer the questions:1 Joan 2 Amy 3 Simon 4 Ellen 5 Mike 6 Tony and Mary 7 Alex 8 Penny. Answer the questions: 1) Where’s Ellen going next July? She’s going to Hawaii. 2) Who’ll be visiting Joan? Her daughter and grandchildren will be visiting her. 3) What’s Alex going to do when he grows up? He’s going to have a toy factory. 4) Why are Tony and Marie excited? Because Marie’s going to have a baby. 5) Where’s Penny going tomorrow? She’s going to France for the day. 6) What does Amy hope she’ll be doing the next few years? She hopes she’ll be earning a lot of money. 7) What is Simon going to do if he gets good results in his A-level? He is going to study medicine at university. 8) What’s Mike doing tomorrow? He’s going to see a football match. VI.Oral speech- Discussing Future Life 1. Education, job and medicine in the year 2050 2. Travel on our own planet 3. Damaging the environment 4. People and relationships in the future 5.Space exploration and travel on other planets Let’s discuss every point. VIII.
